Further supporting telecom operators to seize opportunities afforded by 5G, China Mobile recently teamed up with Huawei and other partners to publish the 5G New Calling Technical White Paper. This resource provides a roadmap to guide operators in developing their 5G capabilities to optimize voice and video calls and deliver a variety of new applications. These include 5G UHD video calls, intelligent translation, smart customer service, remote collaboration and content sharing.
With telecom operators in MEA collectively building the infrastructure and solutions necessary to make exciting 5G services and innovations possible for consumers, businesses and industry, CMI will continue to work with partners across the region to help build an ecosystem for a smarter and more connected future.
China paves the way for virtual telecom operators

The independent regulatory body had agonised for months over whether it had the legal authority to approve or reject a merger of two telecom operators, and the possible legal liability it could face depending on how it proceeded.
The telecoms regulator should move quickly ahead with such a consolidation plan if it's really under consideration, and could even consider such a plan if it hasn't yet. Doing so would send a strong signal that the big state-run carriers could ultimately be demoted to simple network owners and operators. That would pave the way for a vibrant field of more entrepreneurial and innovative private companies to offer services under a series of reforms now in the pilot program stages.
Telecom operators stand to benefit immensely by taking part in the metaverse. Through this virtual environment, they can enhance customer experience, monetize investments through adjacent services and increase operational efficiency.
But more uniquely for telecom operators, the metaverse presents a distinct opportunity to play a more assertive role in the metaverse value chain. Alongside technology giants and online game developers, telecom operators can leverage emerging technologies such as 5G, edge cloud, analytics and artificial intelligence (AI) so that they are no longer relegated to the role of pipe provider but are paving the way to becoming cocreators of the metaverse. Indeed, we are already starting to see telcos around the globe recognize this potential.
A wealth of product, customer and asset data will reside with telecom operators within the metaverse, while their legacy retail and distribution capabilities will also provide a range of customer- and operations-related insights.
As we move into the metaverse, vast amounts of critical data will be processed. With enterprises and telecom operators coming together in new ways, it is critical that both privacy and security are prioritized.
As operators chart the course to 5G and migrate to software-based, virtualized networks, their visibility and analytics infrastructure must follow suit. This is where network packet brokers (NPBs) become critical. Many operators are choosing to have this technology in place just to handle the rising traffic volumes leading up to 5G; those that do will be that much more ready for the next generation.
As operators chart the course to 5G and migrate to software-based, virtualized network infrastructures, their visibility infrastructure needs to follow suit. To find out more, contact your Extreme Networks representative and view these Packet Broker resources:
6G networks are expected to be even more diverse than their predecessors and are likely to support applications beyond current mobile use scenarios, such as virtual and augmented reality (VR/AR), ubiquitous instant communications, pervasive intelligence and the Internet of Things (IoT).[11] It is expected that mobile network operators will adopt flexible decentralized business models for 6G, with local spectrum licensing, spectrum sharing, infrastructure sharing, and intelligent automated management underpinned by mobile edge computing, artificial intelligence (AI), short-packet communication and blockchain technologies.[12][13][14][15] 2ff7e9595c
